Internet Auction Etiquette
Internet auction can only be successful when a high level of trust is maintained between the sellers and the buyers. As a result, most reputable auction sites enforce strict rules to keep off the fraudulent and illegal behaviors. Observe these practices while participating in the auctions.
Before you bid
- If you have any questions concerning the bidding process or the items you wish to offer, email the seller. A reputable seller will be happy to reply to the buyer’s questions.
- Go through all the biding terms and conditions given in the auction description. Usually, the auction sites have different instructions. You shouldn’t therefore assume that you will apply past site guidelines into the new auction site.
Winning an auction
- Most internet auction sites require sellers and buyers to interact with each other at least three days after the actual auction day. You should also reply to the sellers’ end of auction in a timely way.
- In case the seller sends a shipping EOA email address, be sure to include it in your response. Most sellers require the information so that they can package and prepare the goods for shipping.
Sending payment
- Once you have understood the payment method accepted, make the payment timely. It’s reasonable for you to pay within five days after the auction.
- Be sure to confirm after how long the product will be delivered after the payment.
After the sale
- Inform the seller when you receive the item. This will help them to know if the goods have safely reached their destination.
- Leave feedback after the transaction. It can either be positive or negative depending on your experience.
- If you have any issue or your rights have been violated, report the case to the concerned body.
A successful transaction needs cooperation from all the parties. Maintain a straightforward communication always, and you won’t regret your internet auction experience.
